Eco friendly way of life

"Renewable energy is energy that comes from natural resources such as sunlight(solar energy), wind, rain, tides and waves. About 16% of global final energy consumption comes from renewable resources, with 10% of all energy from traditional biomass and 3.4% from hydro electricity." ~wiki

This was a brief introduction of what exactly the renewable energy is and we all know how important it is for our climate and planet for sustainable growth and development. We are always very much excited about the brands around us in different sectors of operations i.e food, lifestyle, clothing, banking and many online operating brands and many more others. These big brands requires huge amount of energy to run their operations and data centers.

Lets find out how many out of big brands following green way to run their business using renewable energy sources. The folks at Cooler Planet have produced an interesting infographic showing ten major businesses that run on a minimum of 100% renewable energy

Let’s Power The Future-Here Comes The Sun.!

After the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the German government decided to abandon nuclear power, closing eight plants immediately and shutting down the remaining nine by 2022. Their solar power plants were able to produce a world record 22 Giga watts of electricity per hour - equal to 20 nuclear power stations at full capacity..!!

If they can do it, why can't we? Wind energy alone could provide enough power ten times over to provide for all of our needs!

Nuclear plants will be replaced by renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and bio-mass. 22 Giga watts of solar power per hour fed into the German power grids, met nearly 50 percent of the nation's midday electricity needs.

It should be seen as a great auger for bright, clean and safe energy environment for the entire world and hope for every developing and underdeveloped countries to cut their huge cost, they are bearing for energy requirements.
Here Comes The Sun !

Never before anywhere has a country produced as much photovoltaic electricity. Germany came close to the 20 GW mark a few times in recent weeks. But this was the first time they made it over. The record-breaking amount of solar power shows one of the world's leading industrial nations was able to meet a third of its electricity needs on a work day, Friday, and nearly half on Saturday when factories and offices were closed.
Government-mandated support for renewable has helped Germany became a world leader in renewable energy and the country gets about 20 percent of its overall annual electricity from those sources.

Germany has nearly as much installed solar power generation capacity as the rest of the world combined and gets about four percent of its overall annual electricity needs from the sun alone. It aims to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from 1990 levels by 2020.

SUNSHINE

Solar Power Evolution
Some critics say renewable energy is not reliable enough nor is there enough capacity to power major industrial nations. But Germany is eager to demonstrate that is indeed possible.

The jump above the 20 GW level was due to increased capacity this year and bright sunshine nationwide. The 22 GW per hour figure is up from about 14 GW per hour a year ago. Germany added 7.5 GW of installed power generation capacity in 2012 and 1.8 GW more in the first quarter for a total of 26 GW capacities.

This shows Germany is capable of meeting a large share of its electricity needs with solar power, it also shows Germany can do with fewer coal-burning power plants, gas-burning plants and nuclear plants.

This should be an eye opener of the nations involved in dangerous nuclear deals or in nuclear plantation. What for and where they are heading for to keep their promise of giving light to people or disastrous, dangerous and unlivable environment to their gen –next.

Hopes lies everywhere and trends, for what have been achieved so far, are also in favor, now one need a strong will power to get the things on track for better tomorrow.

India’s Environmental Challenges and Hopes

India on Sustainable Development and Environment

India so called growing economic power house of the world, which is in its full speed on development track. Entire world is recognizing it‘s all round developments activities, economic potentials, global economic driver capabilities and very key influences on global economy in future. A country with numerous missions & visions like 2020, 2050…. so on. Why not..? Every country should have one for growth and development, but at what cost.?

India is also member or leader of various groups of underdeveloped or developing nations on numerous issues (economy, environment and sustainable growth etc). On environment front most of the members of such groups blame, on various occasions, to developed countries for not giving sufficient subsidies and helps to implement the measures for the sustainable growth along with rapid economic developments, but actually they hide their own incation. There are points, negotiations and disagreements on these issues.

Most of the environmental summits go in waste only in blaming each other and discussing who has done more harm to environment and who has less ... and time up. Is there going to be a way out by such attitude? Is there should be one as an eye opener to tell you how dirty, polluted and filthy your house is? If you clean your house, is it the developed nations are going to make it dirty or pollute it or its advantage will be going to them. Growth is must and should be on priority but providing clean, green, safe, healthy and hygienic ambience, environment and nature to your citizens is also must.

Failed Environment summits

Solutions are not far away. What are your issues with other developed nations do ask and fight for the same but that is not only option one should wait for to resolve and in fact it’s not going to do any magic to ameliorate the situation. Solution lies in the way  you handle your local natural resources, how you implement and guide industrial activities, infrastructure & development courses, plans and regulations for wild lives, rivers, biodiversities conservations, forests and agriculture and planning for cities & towns.

Take a case of India with so much cultural, social and natural diversities, has started its economic growth race blindly. It has gain enough so far but lost also equally if not more. With uneven industrial distributions and lack of proper planning has given it population congestion at industrial areas, overcrowded cities causing more pressure on natural recourses of one particular place, pressure on infrastructure, pollution and many more uncountable unwanted things.

Indian cities are extremely ill prepared to address the environmental fallouts of the aggressive building construction that is underway, according to Centre for Science and Environment. A statement issued by the centre said that 70% of the building stock that will be there in 2030 is yet to be built in India but without resource efficiency measures this will severely affect liveability of cities.

Since 1991, Indian policies on economic reforms have sidelined environmental concerns. The hard fought gains of the 1970s and 1980s (including new policies and laws on forests, wildlife, environment protection, water and air pollution, and the creation of a dedicated ministry) have been increasingly diluted, or sidestepped, in the blind pursuit of economic growth.

The 2010 McKinsey estimates confirm that the national power demand can be reduced by as much as 25% in 2030 by improving energy efficiency of buildings and operations. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has also stated that even existing buildings have the potential to save 30-50% of energy. Similarly, substantial water savings is possible. Only by improving the water efficiency of the water fixtures the water demand can be reduced by more than 30% , said the statement by CSE.

Is There Hope?

With a dedicated ministry (MoFE) and continuous active pressure from civil societies and NGOs govt has drafted and implemented many policies and acts.
A few proposals in the 11th five-year plan, a committee to recommend a low carbon economy, state governments declaring a move towards organic production, rights-based laws. These are a few such signs. But lost, nonetheless, in the bigger picture of ‘growth at all costs’. Much more hopeful are the thousands of grassroots initiatives in sustainable agriculture, rural and urban renewal, decentralized water harvesting and energy production, meaningful community-based education and health, empowerment of the poorest that dot the country. Learning from them, helping them scale up and spread out, would be the single-most important step for the government.
Hopes lies with many civil and NGOs societies working at the grassroots level like CSE(Centre for Science and Environment) and Kalpavriksh .

Could The World Reach A 100 Percent Renewable Energy Goal

  • Buffer

Could the world reach a 100 % renewable energy target in less than 20 years? New research reveals some facts regarding this milestone that gives a firm hope and strengthen our initiatives, thinking in this field.
A report published in the journal Energy Policy claims that by 2030, we can achieve 100 % renewable energy if the proper measures are taken.
What exactly are these measures? According to PhysOrg, over 80 percent of our world's energy supply currently comes from fossil fuels. We would need to build approximately four million wind turbines, nearly 2 billion solar photovoltaic systems, and about 90,000 solar power plants. The 5 MW wind turbines needed are up to three times the capacity of most of our current wind turbines. Possible? Perhaps.

solar wind renewable energy

Germany and China have both already built 5 MW offshore turbines. A few dozen utility-scale solar plants already exist. Plus, the researchers believe that all of the major necessary resources are available - the only "material bottleneck" lies in obtaining rare earth materials, supplies which could be increased with more mining or recycling.
Human beings are probably the biggest blockade in achieving a renewable energy goal.
What do you think? Can the world achieve 100 percent renewable energy by 2030?
Look at the some facts regarding solar and wind power energy..
1.The unit cost of wind and solar are coming down.the time to transition is NOW before PEAK OIL raises the cost of oil and damages the world economy. Rising demand for oil from China and India will soon exceed the world supply raising the price of oil for all.We saw what $147/barrel oil did to the economy in 2008, and exceeding day by day.

2. Is this a joke right? The authors of the study list the following needed investments for this to happen:
3,800,000  5 MW wind turbines,
49,000  300 MW concentrated solar plants
40,000  300 MW solar PV power plants,
1.7 billion  3 kW rooftop PV systems,
5350 100 MW geothermal power plants,
270 new  1300 MW hydroelectric power plants,
720,000  0.75 MW wave devices, and
490,000  1 MW tidal turbines
This cost of the first 3 items on the list is a cool $159 Trillion dollars compared to world GDP of $67 Trillion in 2007.

Solar Energy On The Way To Lightup The Street Of Desert

solar Energy panelsMost of the Indian states suffer from the shortage of power supply through out the year and this not only brings a huge pressures on power production & distribution system but also disturbs the financial & economic activities in the country. All most every state rely on the thermal power production which is not only costly but also very polluting as well.

In a major change the Govt.of Rajasthan has cleared its solar energy policy. Rajasthan has huge potential in the solar energy field which is worth to capitalized, specially in its western part.Solar energy potential of the sate could easily make the state a "Self dependent" in  power sector at very low cost in comparison to thermal power. Most of the Indian states has to invest a great amount of their budget in the power generation, which is  basically coal based and one of the most polluting element
.
Solar energy production is even more favourable in cost wise apart from its Eco-friendly nature. If we compare the cost of a 500MW energy production by thermal plants,  usually takes 30 crore whereas  the cost of producing the same units of energy by solar system costs 16 crore. This is a significant advantage of solar system over the polluting and dirty way of energy production.

Photovoltaic panels
Rajasthan cabinet okays solar energy policy for promoting solar energy production. The Division of Solar Energy and Wind Power Utilization in the Central Arid Zone Research Institute at Jodhpur has amply demonstrated the potential for exploitation of solar energy in western Rajasthan from 1975 onwards and it took a most three decades for the Government of Rajasthan to evolve a policy on Solar Energy utilization.Of course not too late!

So question is if the solar system is so much Eco-friendly and most importantly so cost effective then why too late?, why  The Govt. is relying & looking for various other dirty and even more dangerous power generation technologies i.e atomic plants, huge thermal plants etc ?. It is time to implement it not even of thinking about it.
Happy Sun light to the people in the desert, even in night..!! & hope rest of citizens will also enjoy the same very soon.
